MONOVISION MAY BE A GOOD OPTION FOR PATIENTS AGED 45 AND OVER, WHO MAY FEEL FRUSTRATED WITH WEARING READING GLASSES AND AGE-RELATED DECLINE IN VISION (PRESBYOPIA).
WHAT IS MONOVISION?
Monovision is a solution for Presbyopia – the lack of ability of the eye’s lens to change shape to focus on nearby objects or written text. Presbyopia occurs as a natural decline in reading vision, most often experienced by people aged 45 and over.
A large factor in the success of Monovision patients is the ability of the brain to adjust to a new way of seeing objects near and far. The adjustment process may take a few days or weeks, or may not feel right for you at all.
This is why you may choose to first trial Monovision with a set of contact lenses so that you can see if it might suit you.
WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF MONOVISION?
Monovision describes the method of correcting one eye for distance vision and the other for reading so that, when the two eyes work together, clearer vision can be obtained over a range of distances. This is one method used to either reduce or eliminate the dependence on reading glasses.
Some people do very well with Monovision straight away while others will take some time to adapt. Other patients may not like it at all.
AM I A SUITABLE CANDIDATE FOR MONOVISION?
Sardana Eye Institute can help you to ascertain if Monovision is right for you. It is typically recommended for patients aged 45 years and over, who are tired of wearing reading glasses.
HOW DOES THE MONOVISION PROCEDURE WORK?
During the Monovision corrective procedure, your eye surgeon adjusts one eye for long-distance vision, and the other eye may be left untouched, or adjusted for close-up focus – depending on your individual needs.
Monovision can be achieved in combination with any of the following eye surgery procedures:
- Refractive Lens Exchange (RLE)
- Implantable Collamer Lens (ICL)
Our optometrists can help you trial Monovision by fitting you with contact lenses to mimic the results of Monovision. By trialling it first, you will see if Monovision is right for you.
